Destiny @ Songwat

This new hangout on the Yaowarat riverfront, heavily transformed and marketed as Song Wat in the past two years, stands out for its location and views, and the laid-back atmosphere created by Khun Kuk and her team. It has the potential to be a five star location but it still needs some investments in its infrastructure and equipment. It depends on whether it want to appeal primarily to the backpacker hostel crowd inundating Talad Noi’s alleys these days or a more distinguished bar that deserves its prime location, and the ambition in its name. At the moment, the place has a touch of a student dorm party, with quick-fix bathroom facilities and worn-out conference room chairs. I’m sure the whole area will evolve fast, and soon link up with its more lively nearby sister bar “Hit the Road”. Altogether, a promising startup, a friendly and well-meaning crew, and a location to watch. Worth a visit, worth encouraging, and worth taking to the next level.
