I don't know about dinner, but the luncheon menu for a ridiculously low amount (below 500 THB) for a 3 course meal with drink is outrageous value! Gourmet food, well plated, and a convivial atmosphere. What more do you need?

Excellent service and food. Appetizers, salads, sea bass, sausages and bone in beef steak were all delicious. Bruno the GM was great. Very personable and knowledgable about wine, food and hospitality.

I'd like to give this place between 3 and 4. Service is pretty good, although can be distracted; decor is comfortable industrial-chic. Viva Thonglor has changed ownership; Jess Barnes - the reason we visited - and Chef Mui are gone. We spoke to the manager who is changing the restaurant to Italian food; pizza, pasta, tiramisu, panna cotta, creme brulee (!) and music. They have a few good key keg beers; Vedett, Little Creatures, La Chouffe. Spanish sparkling wine by the glass was good. There were two menus, the new Italian menu and the old menu which is being replaced. The old desserts - chocolate sorbet, pain perdue and others - weren't available and one of the dishes didn't match the menu description. For example buttermilk fried chicken sandwich (breast, slightly dry) on brioche came on a white bun looking like a burger. With sweet coleslaw, rubbery grilled cheese and something akin to marie-rose sauce. Onglet steak was nicely-cooked but came doused in a creamy mushroom sauce which dulled the flavour of the meat, and accompanied by mashed potatoes, an unusual choice. The potatoes had been mixed with something else possible milk or butter-based, possibly cheese, which didn't go well with the steak. There were small lumps in the mash. A beetroot, pomelo and labneh (Greek yoghurt) salad was the star turn though it would have benefited from more smaller pieces of pomelo. As the original chefs no longer work there and their dishes are being replaced it's hard to say who is responsible for the output of the kitchen. Perhaps it would be fairer if Viva Thonglor got a new name to go with its new direction, rather than trading off previous reviews. They display a Mastercard / Visa logo on the door, but my foreign credit card failed to connect over their Bangkok Bank terminal. My Bangkok Bank debit card was also refused, so we paid cash. Apparently this usually happens, so bring cash.

Thanks for your reply. I wish you good luck. But obviously you have to work on the equation expensive rent - expensive prices - average food - no customers. Nice looking place. Empty on a saturday night despite good reviews....not à good sign....waiting for my friend to arrive I order a bottle of wine. Nothing below 1500 baht. Glass of wine 350 to 400.... not a good way to attract customers. Service ok. Food is so so. I will try at lunchtime but will not go again in the evening. It's so sad to have such an empty big place.i think prices are far too high for what we get. Portions are small. Glass of wine at 350 baht? Insane.
