About

Pratunam's go-to for khao man gai, the classic Thai poached chicken rice. Tender chicken over fragrant rice with clear soup — simple, affordable, and exactly what locals come for. Expect a queue, but turnover moves fast and longan juice hits the spot.

We chose the non-air-conditioned location and although it was quite busy, the turnover was fast, so we didn’t wait too long. We ordered three servings of chicken rice and two longan drinks and everything was absolutely delicious. The chicken was tender and the sauce was so flavorful! It really got our appetites going. The only downside was sweating a lot while eating, but honestly, it was worth it! ☺️

If you find yourself wandering the humid, neon-lit streets of Pratunam, your nose will eventually lead you to Go-Ang Kaomunkai. It’s a Bangkok institution—easily spotted by the staff in their signature pink shirts and the long, winding queue of hungry souls waiting for a seat. My experience here was a solid 4/5. It’s the kind of place that feels like the heartbeat of the city: fast, loud, and unpretentiously delicious. The star of the show is, of course, the Hainanese Chicken Rice. I’ll be honest—at first glance, it looks almost too simple. Just a plate of poached chicken over a mound of rice. But the first bite tells a different story. The rice is incredibly fragrant, infused with just enough chicken fat to be silky without being greasy. The chicken itself is lean and clean, but the secret sauce is what ties it all together. It’s a salty, tangy mix of fermented soybeans, ginger, and bird’s eye chilies that adds a necessary "kick" to the mellow chicken. Don't come here expecting a quiet, romantic dinner. This is a "get in, eat, and get out" kind of establishment. It’s open-air (so expect to sweat a little), with stainless steel tables and a constant clatter of plates. There’s something incredibly nostalgic and grounding about the environment; it’s a Michelin Bib Gourmand winner that has never forgotten its street-food roots. While the chicken is the main event, you must order the Thai Milk Tea. In a city full of tea stalls, Go-Ang’s version stands out. It is decadently creamy, perfectly sweet, and serves as the ultimate cooling relief after a plate of spicy dipping sauce. It’s served in a simple glass, but the balance of strong black tea and condensed milk is pure comfort in liquid form.

Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice Authentic Khao Man Gai at a very affordable price. A great place to experience this classic Thai dish just like the locals do. The chicken is tender and flavorful, and the soup made from chicken bones is especially delicious — simple but deeply comforting. Excellent value for money and a must-try spot for anyone wanting real Thai street food.
