The legendary fish balls of Song Wat! But the real star is the fish dumpling—so bouncy, fresh, and packed with flavor. You haven’t lived until you’ve tried these! 🥟🐟✨

After an extremely disappointing experience at Lim Lao Ngow 5mins away, I came over to Lim Lao Sar, tucked away in a small alleyway along a street in Chinatown that is adorned with hippy bars and restaurants. I wonder if Lim Lao Ngow and Lim Lao Sar are related… 🤔 Regardless, Lim Lao Sar’s Fish Ball Noodles are somewhat better than the ones I had at Lim Lao Ngow. Assuming the stall owner is the one cooking, although busy raking up bowls of his creation one after the other, he greeted me after I greeted him in my lousy Thai… 😆 The waiter was equally courteous, nothing like them stoic waiters at Lim Lao Ngow. The wide egg noodles (Mee Pok) (Ba Mee Ban) were al dente, doused in light soya sauce concoction. The fish balls here were much softer to the bite compared to Lim Lao Ngow’s, and the soup here had Umami—although a tad salty than I would have liked. 👍👍👍👍👍 Unlike Lim Lao Ngow, this stall had the usual Thai condiments on the table. At least it has the dried ground Thai chilli flakes that I like, together with red and green pickled chillies, pepper and fish sauce. Can’t remember if there was a container of sugar, but I don’t use it anyway. A shame there were no more fish cakes and fish dumplings left… 😭 A bowl of fish ball noodles and fish balls soup set me back 120 Baht, which I gladly paid. How Lim Lao Ngow received the Michelin Bib Gourmand, and not Lim Lao Sar is beyond me…. 😉🧐 I prefer this Lim Lao Sar. Many more locals than foreigners… Many thanks to the stall owner for the food, and for the waiter who served me with a smile.
