About
Northern Thai restaurant in Ari specializing in khao soi served dry — a twist that lets the curry sauce cling directly to the noodles. The beef is tender, and starters like pork satay and crab roe paste (poo-ong) with sticky rice are worth ordering.

Ongtong Dried Khao Soi is a refreshing twist on the classic Northern Thai comfort food. Instead of the usual soup, they serve it dry, letting the rich curry sauce coat the noodles perfectly. The flavor is bold, creamy, and aromatic—very “khao soi” but more intense because nothing is diluted by broth. The star is the crispy noodle topping—super crunchy and generous—paired with tender chicken that’s well-seasoned and juicy. Mix everything together with the pickled greens, red onion, and a squeeze of lime, and you get a perfect balance of savory, creamy, tangy, and crunchy in every bite. The place feels casual and local, making it a great spot for both first-timers and khao soi lovers looking for something different.

A Khao-soi place with wide selections of Northern Thai dishes. The beef in Khao-Soi is surprisingly tender. Starters like pork Satay and Poo-ong (savory crab roe paste) with sticky rice are delicious too. Prices are on the higher side but the foods are worth it.

I've not reviewed this in the past, though I'm a repeat customer several times over (I always forget to take pictures truth be told). My bad. It definitely qualifies as one of the more memorable ones. My criteria for memorable always starts with the broth. I mean, it's the broth that permeates and binds all the components ie. the noodles , protein and condiments together. If the broth fails, the dish fails. Thankfully, neither fails here. The broth is just the right consistency, not too thick or too watery with plenty of taste (though my personal preference is for an extra dollop of their oily roasted chili paste). The other ingredients just sort of supplement and build on that strong broth base, what you'd expect of a nicely constructed dish. Ongtong is a polished establishment. By that I mean that it caters to an international crowd by virtue of appearing in numerous influential social media accounts. The staff speak decent English, there's a branding origin story, it's got a formidable local/ international following, easily readable menu etc. Service is prompt, seating aplenty, quality that is consistent over time and pricing that a foreigner would still find affordable. No other reasons needed to define the meaning of memorable !!

Back in Thailand for our honeymoon, and on the very first day we decided to try Khao Soi. We ordered the chicken version, and it was much better than I expected. I had assumed it would be overwhelmingly spicy, but instead it had a rich, balanced flavor with a creamy curry base and just the right amount of heat. It’s probably not something I would eat every day, but it’s definitely a dish worth trying at least once. A pleasant surprise and a great start to our trip! 🍜

It’s a rather obscure shop front on a rather busy pavement. Easy to miss it if you are not paying attention. The ground floor has limited dining space so we dined up on the 2nd floor. Be prepared for a steep climb. I found the noodles just OK. Maybe not too special. But we liked the sausages, though. They go very well with the green chilli paste and boiled veggies.
