About

Fine dining in Chinatown from Chef Pam, Asia's Best Female Chef 2024. Set in a restored shophouse on Soi Wanit 1, the tasting menu reimagines Sino-Thai heritage through contemporary technique. A fitting choice for milestone occasions.

Our last anniversary celebrations was at R.Haan some years ago. After careful planning and money saved, we decided why not Potong this time around for our 25th anniversary as this chef is famous, sadly she’s not around to say hi, that’s ok. The cuisine was awesome n the Sake 422 n DM Octavin was great. We actually opt out the wine pairing as we don’t want to get too drunk as we drink only on extra special occasions like this one. Overall an enjoyable experience !

I visited POTONG a few nights ago, and overall, the experience was great. The concept and storytelling behind the restaurant are truly impressive. We were lucky not to be seated next to the staircase, as I think that might have been a bit uncomfortable. The journey throughout the evening was enjoyable — I especially appreciated the contrast between the old-town setting and the refined fine dining experience. The atmosphere, service, presentation, and plating were definitely the highlights of the night. Every dish looked like a work of art, and the overall show was beautifully executed. As for the food, however, I can’t quite say “wow.” As a Chinese diner, dishes like turnip cake, squid, double-boiled soup, congee, and fish maw didn’t feel particularly surprising or impressive to me. The red curry dish was flavorful, and the bread was excellent. Unfortunately, the scallop was slightly overcooked. We had very high expectations for the main course — the crispy skin duck — but it turned out to be a bit too greasy, especially with the garnish. We also added the Wagyu Char Siu when confirming our reservation. While the flavor was good, it was overly fatty — more than 60% fat — and although it was slow-cooked for hours, it didn’t feel especially delicate or refined. After a few bites, it became too greasy for my taste. Overall, POTONG offers a wonderful concept and dining journey, but for me, the flavors didn’t quite live up to the theatrical presentation.

If you are looking for a truly special dining experience in Bangkok, POTONG is it. We were already excited to visit, knowing Chef Pam was awarded Asia’s Best Female Chef in 2024 and The World’s Best Female Chef in 2025, but nothing prepared us for how deeply personal the experience would feel. The location itself is stunning—a restored 120-year-old pharmacy in Chinatown—but it became so much more meaningful after reading Chef Pam’s heart-warming "letter to her grandparents" that every guest receives. It transforms the building from a mere venue into a living piece of family history that you’re invited to be part of. We opted for the pairing, which was a spectacular journey through Chef Pam’s memories and emotions. Her philosophy focuses on five elements—salt, acid, spice, texture, and the Maillard reaction—and the result is a masterclass in flavour science. It is impossible to name a single favorite, but the medley broth, the incredibly delicate scallop, and the 14-day aged duck (which lived up to every bit of the hype!) were absolute standouts. Oh, wait .. the Pad Thai! Unreal! The journey didn't end with the final course, either. After the meal, we headed up to the fourth and fifth floors to the Opium Bar. It’s a total cocktail haven with a moody, speakeasy vibe that perfectly caps off the night.
