Muay Thai in Bangkok: what to know
Muay Thai in Bangkok is easy to try. Traditional camps and modern gyms across the city welcome complete beginners. This page lists gyms with location, rating and opening hours.
According to a gym guide updated on 20 October 2026, drop-in group sessions cost roughly 400–980 THB. Our beginners' guide lists gyms by area with their published prices and explains what a first class involves.
Gyms cluster along Sukhumvit and in central Bangkok. Silom & Sathorn and Other Bangkok hold the largest groups. Sukhumvit, Thonglor, Phrom Phong and Nana have more, with smaller groups at Riverside, Khao San and Asok. Residential areas such as Ari and Thonburi also have gyms. Because the city is large, pick a gym near your hotel or home, so that a morning class does not start with a long taxi ride.
Before your first class:
- Tell the trainer it is your first session. Good gyms adjust the pace.
- Pay for one session before you buy a package.
- Ask if gloves are provided, and bring your own hand wraps.
- Check the class times, since most gyms run a morning and an afternoon session. Arrive early on your first day to fill in any forms and to meet the trainer.
- Check the facilities, such as air conditioning and showers, which vary a lot from gym to gym.
Long-stay visitors sometimes build a training routine around a visa. The DTV visa guide explains one route, and our Muay Thai round-up covers the culture and the events. If you also want a general gym, see fitness and gym.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a Muay Thai class in Bangkok?
In a gym guide updated on 20 October 2026, drop-in group sessions cost roughly 400–980 THB. Prices change, so confirm the current rate with the gym before you travel.
Can beginners train Muay Thai in Bangkok?
Yes. Most gyms welcome beginners in group classes, and many also offer private lessons. Tell the trainer it is your first session so the pace suits you. Our beginners' guide describes what a first class involves.
Should I buy a package or a single class first?
Pay for one session first. That lets you judge the trainers, the class size, the facilities and the distance from your hotel. Buy a package only after you are sure the gym suits you and your plans.
What should I bring to a Muay Thai class?
Bring hand wraps, a towel, water and sports clothes that you can move in. Ask whether the gym lends gloves or sells them. Check if showers are available, because facilities differ between gyms.
Which parts of Bangkok have Muay Thai gyms?
Gyms cluster along Sukhumvit, in Silom and Sathorn, and in other districts across the city. Open the area pages in this category to see each group, and read the beginners' guide, which lists gyms by area with published prices.
