Amaranta is a very good hotel in a wonderful convenient location in Huai Khwang. The rooms are comfortable, a little small, but comfortable. The staff is professional and responsive. While we were there the rooftop bar never opened, but it looked good. The restuarant was just ok.

I stayed here for 3 nights when visiting bangkok and found Amaranta to be a solid choice for a stay in the Huai Khwang area but found the area itself not central enough to getting around bangkok with ease. The rooms are well maintained with thoughtfully integrated touchscreen tech that actually feels useful. There is sufficient space and the beds are quite comfortable. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was above average with good chinese options but the Continental options were mediocre at best. Great value but one thing to keep in mind is the bathroom design which is very open. Not at all ideal for room sharing unless you are a couple or a family. The toilet area is open to the room even with partition closed which can be awkward when sharing with friends. The neighborhood skews Chinese and the hotel is about four or five stops from the city center by metro, and trains can get quite crowded. You can get around but not in comfort. Taxis are almost 250B in Peak times and take 40 minutes from Sukhumwit. Overall it is a good option if you need to be in this part of town, but if you want all the sights at your doorstep a more central base like Sukhumvit may work better.

We booked the seafood buffet in The Copper restaurant, as we arrived early, we went to the skybar for a drink. I ordered white wine, only to be told, no white wine available, so ordered red and the other drinks were served fine. We went for dinner, and were very disappointed. The selection of seafood was very limited, and below average at best. Other food available, also very average, many served in the heated containers, with the food being only warm, not hot. Deserts were ok. The service was fine until we paid the bill, only to be told as we were leaving, we had to pay extra as they had given us the wrong bill. Superman in the fish tank was ok, and our birthday celebration was recognised. However, our evening was totally ruined as soon after we got home, one of our party of 3, became violently ill. This has to be from the food consumed in the restaurant, as nothing else had been consumed, or drunk after we left the restaurant until we got home. The illness occurred around 1230am.

Breakfast was disappointing — and that’s coming from a foodie. The pictures online, especially of the fish tank, really don’t do the place justice. There was mostly Thai-style food, with a small attempt at a North American breakfast: some toast, and the option to get scrambled or sunny-side-up eggs. Bacon was sitting in one of those heated trays and didn’t look very appetizing. Nothing was ever refilled while we were there. If you got to breakfast early, you could grab some decent fruit, but by 8:30 a.m., it was mostly leftovers. At one point, they ran out of bread, and we waited over 20 minutes for more. Staff didn’t seem to monitor what was running low, so you had to point it out yourself — and even then, it took a while to be replaced. That was the most frustrating part. If breakfast matters to you, you’re better off eating somewhere else. The location itself is decent, though the gym being across the street was a bit inconvenient. On our last day, we also had to call multiple times just to get extra towels and basic amenities. The staff were friendly, but overall, I wouldn’t stay here again.
