About

Born Free Hostel is a laid-back hostel in Khao San offering a quiet, social environment for travelers seeking community without high-energy nightlife. The property provides complimentary bikes for neighborhood exploration, a communal kitchen and cafe, and thoughtfully designed social areas that encourage guest interactions.

The relaxed atmosphere attracts independent travelers while keeping loud parties at a distance—the vibrant Khao San Road sits just a five-minute walk away for those seeking evening energy. Guests appreciate the cozy dorm setups, friendly fellow travelers, and the hostel's mascot, making extended stays feel like part of a welcoming community.

Born Free skips the party-hostel formula entirely, focusing instead on a quiet, relaxed atmosphere where travelers actually get sleep and still meet other guests easily. The social areas work—dorms mix AC and fan-only options, with AC worth the small upgrade for Khao San comfort. A loaner bike program lets solo travelers explore the neighborhood without fuss. Khao San Road sits five minutes' walk away if nightlife calls, making this sweet spot between social and restful seem deliberate rather than accidental.

This place is amazing! It has a nice quiet relaxed environment that is perfect for travellers not looking for a party hostel. But if youre looking for a party Khao San road is only 5mins walk away. The rooms available are two types of Dorms... AC or Fan. In my opinion for the small extra price the AC option is totally worth it. The beds are comfortable and extremely clean. I stayed for 7 nights and didnt see a single insect and in fact during that time the staff would do regular inspections to maintain this high standard of cleanliness. Congrats team very impressed 👏 Will 100% return to stay again on my way back out. ✌️

Great experience. Loved the free bike to explore the neighborhood. Peanut is so grumpy but so cute!

I stayed here for just one night. The atmosphere is cozy, and the social area makes it easy to meet other travelers. The dorm is decent, but it doesn’t have privacy curtains and the luggage space is limited. The bathroom is outside the room—there are only two per floor—and the cleanliness could be improved. The location is good, close to Khao San Road.

It’s ok. The staff is great, and its a good location. There is only one bathroom for seemingly 2 floor (20 beds??) One of them doesn’t even have a sink The rooms are ok, but even the AC ones they have the AC turned off during the hottest part of the day(12pm - 4pm). In other reviews the hostel claims its because most of the guests are not in the room, but there was 5-6 people still sleeping in there when it was turned off, so it just seems like an excuse to cut costs.
