InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit by IHG

As a IHG Diamond Ambassador member, I have completed a four nights stay in the Intercontinental Bangkok Sukhumvit at Thong Lo over the Chinese New Year holidays. This is a newish property with an excellent location with easy access to the BTS. The interior design of this property is sleek and elegant, which translates very well into the design of the rooms. From check-in to check-out, the service we have received from everyone in the hotel is warm, friendly and professional. We have access to the Club Intercontinental with our booking, due to the IHG annual lounge pass, and we are warmly welcomed first by Khun Pair. Over the next few days, the club colleagues provided a first class experience to us - much thanks to Khun Fit and Khun Tea and their team. The Club Intercontinental is very exclusive and rightly so. We enjoyed our time here: the F&B service (e.g. the high tea and the evening drinks) is excellent. We enjoyed our stay here tremedously, and we look forward to our next stay in this property in June.

I recently visited Espresso Restaurant for a dinner buffet to celebrate my mother’s birthday, and it was a very pleasant experience. The food was delicious and definitely worth the price. Although the variety was not extremely large, the quality and taste of the dishes were excellent. What truly made the evening special was the service. The team was attentive, friendly, and very professional throughout the dinner. I would especially like to thank Golf, Noon, Mook, Por, and Non for taking great care of us and ensuring everything was perfect during our visit. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience, and we truly appreciated the warm hospitality. I will definitely return again in the future.

In the end I really enjoyed my stay here. It's a rather new hotel so everything is quite fresh and well-maintained as you'd expect. Located in Thong Lor, and about 5 minutes walk to the BTS and there's also a 7-11 on the way. The rooms are a good size and the bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is well appointed and the shower works well. The swim pool on the rooftop is smallish and doesn't get a lot of sun but it's still a nice retreat to cool down at the end of the day. The option to order drinks and snacks up there would be good though. My main issue was checking in which took far too long. I thought they would be priority check in for an IHG Diamond Member but this didn't appear to be the case. I was asked to sit in a chair in the lobby and then left there and forgotten about. After 15 minutes they finally realized I was there and called me over to check me in. On checkout they charged my card incorrectly and had to do two separate charges which is a minor thing but still took up some time. Finally, the bellhops offering transport to the airport "at good rates" where they are obviously getting commission on the deal didn't feel very "5 star/premium" and I was strongly discouraged from getting a Grab car to use their transport instead. This little Taxi Mafia shouldn't be happening. Despite these things the good far outweighed the bad and I will probably come back again. The staff for the most part were friendly and welcoming.
