About

A Chinatown institution with Michelin recognition, drawing locals of all ages for fish ball noodle soup. The white broth is the classic choice, but the black broth is a must-try. Old-school atmosphere, street-level seating, no frills.

This stall is very famous for its fishball noodles and even won a Michelin award for it. There are lots of people coming to try its noodles. Although its very delicious, i'm not sure if the taste actually deserves an award by Michelin.

Classic, old school street food spot serving some of the best fish ball noodle soup that you can get in the world. Super popular amongst locals of all ages with its Michelin signage at the front of the stall to prove how delicious this place is. One of the original stalls before the restaurant started franchising itself into many big malls and popular locations, this spot is a great to soak in the original atmosphere of the noodle joint. Not for people who aren't already accustomed to street food dining!

Trying out this Michelin award noodles in Yaowarat, Bangkok. The place was literally full house when we arrived. Fortunately, we didn’t wait long before we got our seats. We ordered the egg noodles (dry version) Probably 15 minutes, we were served with couple portions of dry noodles without accompanied side soup. Noodles had a chewy texture with bit of alkaline note. However we found that the noodles were abit dry & we should probably order a soup to go with. Enjoyed the bouncy fishball & fishcake, I liked that fishball dumpling had that familiar solefish flavour, along with sesame oil. The jovial owner, demonstrated how bouncy his fishball was even though he was occupied with his loads.

Absolutely disappointed. 😩 Guess I had too high an expectation given that it’s a Michelin Bib Gourmand laureate. Simple, yes. Delicious, no. I asked for a egg noodle, dry version (Ba Mee, Heng). Instead, I was served a thin rice noodle (Sen Lek) one, in soup. The waiter was adamant that it was me who made the mistake. I didn’t want to argue. The fish balls weren’t as soft to the bite as other reviewers said. The soup was bland, and lacked the Umami I had hoped for. Apart from pickled green chillies, pepper and fish sauce, there weren’t any other Thai condiments on the table. Can’t remember if there was sugar on the side, which I never use anyway. Perhaps, the owner wanted to maintain a clean taste, and not have any spicy chillies kill his creation. Apologies, I just don’t have anything nice to say about it. Just 50 Baht though…. But, the price befits what was put in front of me. Nothing impressive. Further, the fish ball noodles seemed to be cooked and put together by young attendants, not the stall owner or a proper chef. Hmmm… More foreigners than locals. Hmm… P.S. Honestly, I have had better, such as the other Lim Lao Sar Fish Ball Noodles just 5mins walk away. Of all the 4 big names serving fish ball noodles here at Yaowarat, Lim Lao Ngow is unfortunately my least favourite. I am sure Lim Lao Ngow will still remain widely popular, regardless.
