Sukumvit Hospital

I’ve lived in Thailand for many years and unfortunately had to deal with private healthcare multiple times. This visit once again confirmed that private medicine here is a business first — not patient care. I visited Sukhumvit Hospital to see an orthopedic doctor for knee pain. Appointment was easy to book for the next day, registration was fast, and waiting time was reasonable. The consultation itself lasted less than 10 minutes. The doctor briefly checked my knees, gave no clear explanation or diagnosis, and immediately suggested an X-ray (despite no injury history). I was prescribed basic anti-inflammatory pills. Cost: 1,890 THB for a very short consultation and medication. The doctor immediately suggested an X-ray, and I later found out that an X-ray of just one area costs around 1,300 THB. So even basic diagnostics quickly add up, without any guarantee of a clear diagnosis or real treatment plan. No diagnosis. No real guidance. Later, I went to see a gastroenterologist to ask about a Helicobacter pylori breath test. I showed previous test results and endoscopy reports. I was told to come back the next morning fasting. I arrived at 8:30 AM, fasting since the previous afternoon. Only then was I informed that the breath test costs 4,700 THB. This was shocking. For comparison: I previously had far more complex medical procedures in other hospitals for a similar price. Here it was just a simple breath test — blowing into a bag. I declined and left. In the end: • No diagnosis from either doctor • No real medical help • Only extremely high prices for basic tests Private healthcare in Thailand is very expensive, insurance is costly with limited coverage, and even simple diagnostics are overpriced. If you are not insured or expect patient-centered care, be prepared for disappointment. Sadly, this system feels designed to sell tests — not to heal people.

I visit the hospital for a wound in my finger The doctor come a clean it and put some dress and said I have to come back tomorrow for change dressing. It took only 5 minute And They charged me 9000 Bhts???? UNBELIEVABLE AMOUNT FOR LITTLE THING!!!!!!! Its insane, it's cheating, it's not rational, IT'S against business ethics!!! They did not make an operation nor didn't do an x-ray, labs test, NOTHING AT ALL My finger is wounded only NOT TOTALLY Sectioned, Its a matter of cleaning the area and putting some antibiotics and giving medicine!!! Doctor fee is 2000 Bhts which it insane!!!! And They advised me to come back next day for change the plaster. In addition Their is a doctor fee of 1000 and plaster changing 1000 Total of 2000 Bhts for another 5 minutes job!!!? Its the most EXPENSIVE MEDICAL SERVICE ON THE FAR EAST👎👎👎👎👎 I shall write an official complaint to ministry of health as well to the ministry of tourism. Am I getting SCAM BECAUSE I am foreign tourist????? And it against Thailand government vision for promoting medical tourism
