The Davis Bangkok

We stayed in one of the spacious villas for two nights. While a little dated the layout with two floors served us well and the plantation-thai style decor was very nice. I didn't have a particularly good feeling about the upstairs as it had dark wood paneling, small windows and was dimly lit. However, water was generously stocked in the fridge, lots of laundry detergent put out for the washer/dryer and there is an iron and ironing board.

TLDR: If you want a hotel that might unexpectedly cancel your entire reservation with zero notice, with an extortionist approach (ie you find out at check in, and they suggest you rebook at twice the price), go here. Want peace of mind? Go literally anywhere else. Full: the ethics and service of this hotel are the worst I have ever experienced for any 3-4 star hotel — and I have been to 35 countries and travel 6 months a year. To put it simply: room booked a week in advance, arrive in the evening and when I go to check in am told that my booking had been cancelled because the online price was “not correct”. Whats incredible about this is that 1) the online price wasn’t even noticeably low (had many other good options for less), and the same price was listed across all the top online services, *every time I had checked in the previous month when deciding where to stay*! Truly no excuse/ argument that makes sense. 2) Based on activity seen/ overheard, I get the impression they do this deliberately to attract travellers and then corner them into forking over more money out of desperation. The part that pushed this over the top for me: the less than apologetic concierge — speaking as if none of this was a surprise — offered me 10% off… at almost double the price. You’ve been warned. (Not even going to get into the clientele in and around the lobby… felt like a Vegas nightclub in every way, both good and bad, if that’s what you’re going for. Part of me is glad I had to relocate.)

The expansion of this ‘family run hotel’ has become an empire with the entire block owned by it. It has a nightclub in the hotel reception, on a super busy road. If I’d known this I wouldn’t have booked. I think the main ground floor of the hotel being rented to Starbucks & a nightclub says it all. I stayed in the Deluxe room in the Corner wing for the first 2 nights which was fine. Staff are sweet. Rooms are okay. Strong synthetic odor in the corridors. Rooftop jacuzzi wasn’t working..
