About

A no-frills Sukhumvit spot where locals queue for khao man gai done right — the chicken is tender, the rice grains stay distinct and fluffy, and the ginger-forward sauce ties it together. Budget pricing makes it an easy daily habit for the neighborhood.

A truly local khao man gai (chicken rice) spot where locals actually eat. The chicken is tender, the rice grains are distinct and fluffy, and the sauce is delicious. You can choose your dishes directly from the pictures on the menu. The restaurant isn’t air-conditioned, so it might feel a bit warm

Stumble across here by chance. The chicken rice is over expectation. The chicken is super tender. The rice is well-cooked, not too mushy or dry. The sauce is very refreshing with a lot of ginger and balanced sourness. The soup is full of chicken umami but not too salty. Love this. Around 3 min queue when I was there

A very famous local steam rice topping with chicken at Wat Sagate area. There have many seat available and also have online delivery service. The rice is very soft but still have good taste. Chicken chunk are very thick but tender. The dip also very good!. The price is reasonable. My favorite menu is ข้าวมันไก่เนื้ออก ไม่ใส่หนัง "steam rice with chicken breast no skin".

Having tried countless variations of chicken rice over the years, I can confidently say that Khao Man Kai Jae Yi serves some of the better options in Bangkok, maintaining authentic flavors and textures. The rice is well-cooked, and the chicken remains juicy and flavorful. However, after dining at Khao Man Kai Jae Yi for several years, I’ve noticed a steady decline in both service quality and portion sizes. What once felt like a satisfying meal has gradually diminished, with portion sizes shrinking while prices continue to rise beyond reasonable inflation rates. The staff, unfortunately, have also become increasingly inattentive and unfriendly. On multiple occasions, I had to go up and request more sauce or place additional orders myself after unsuccessfully trying to get their attention—even when they were visibly standing nearby. These disappointing changes, likely introduced under new management, have made the overall dining experience far less enjoyable. If you still want to give it a try, be prepared for high prices and portions that may not be as filling as they once were.

This is a honest review. I have been dining here over the last 10 years and over the years their service has declined significantly. The staff aren't welcoming and the owner is very arrogant 🙄. Yes the food tastes as good as it did when the original owner (Jae Yi) run the restaurant, but there is no consistency in amount of food service. My plates was full of chicken, while my dad was full on rice. There were time that the service was so terrible that we end us has to refill the dipping sauce ourselves, like seriously? Return is definitely not a must and not recommend anyone here.
