The Smokin' Pug

I first went to the Smokin Pug the second week it was open, at its original Surawong location. I couldn’t believe how good the food was! Over a decade later and it still is the best in Thailand! A group of nine of us went to dinner there this week. The staff is so friendly and the private room they have for groups is amazing. The Pug has a great drink menu, I highly recommend the Dark & Stormy! Everybody loved their food. The only complaint was the portions are so big it’s hard to finish it all! The brisket quesadillas are probably our group’s favorite appetizer. The ribs are juicy and practically fall off the bone. I had a brisket sandwich and loved it. I always look forward to our visits to the Smokin Pug.

Have you ever found one of those places that just felt like you fit in? I actually found this place by accident earlier in the day during a walk and decided to check it out for dinner. I was lucky enough to meet the owner and one of the managers. I have slowly been writing a book about grief and travel as I explore the world and truly spend a lot of time in Bangkok, which is like a second home to me, but the leadership at the Smokin Pug felt like best friends long lost. On top of that, they have a very good beer selection and I can honestly say the food was a surprise. It’s unusual to find barbecue no less American style barbecue anywhere in Asia and this place is great. Additionally, the portions were quite surprising. I had the three sliders and the chicken could’ve been on four buns. lol Anyway, I love the atmosphere and the ownership is fantastic as well as the staff and I know for sure this will be a frequent place for me to visit. I highly recommend checking it out.

This American BBQ restaurant in the middle of Bangkok felt like a hidden gem to me. Having the classic BBQ foods like brisket, pulled pork, cornbread, and many other things reminded me of my birthplace the states. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were so welcoming and kind. My brother was asking someone (not staff) if they could have their cherry, when someone from the staff brought five of them! Loved this place and would come here again. Its location is right next to a Villa Shopping Center which was convenient for us.
