Vacilando Bookshop

Wonderful bookshop in the heart of Bangkok. I love visiting cool bookshops, at home and abroad, and Vacilando absolutely fits the bill! I love the fact that the books here are unique and would be hard to find elsewhere. The people who work here are also very friendly!

This is a bookstore that wouldn't be at all out of place in a major European or North American city. (Unfortunately, that includes the prices, though that's no fault of the owners.) The selection is small and entirely focused on art, photography, and design books, with an emphasis on independent publishers. I'd estimate about 70% of the books are in English, 20% in Japanese, and the remaining 10% in a quite varied range of languages (I even spotted a magazine in Arabic). There are also quite a few photobooks that can be enjoyed regardless of language. The Thai influence can be seen in the particular emphasis on Southeast Asian publications- from the local indie magazine VROOM to a book on Malaysian street signs. I recommend pairing a visit with the nearby Passport Books, which also has an impressive English selection but with a literary focus.
