Education in Bangkok: what to know

Education in Bangkok covers international schools, bilingual schools, nurseries, language schools, tutoring centres and university programmes. International schools spread across the city, from Sukhumvit and Bang Na to the riverside, Rama 9 and Don Mueang.

For the large schools we checked, 2026/27 tuition runs from about 577,000 to 1,256,700 THB a year, plus one-time entry fees. Each school publishes its own schedule. Our guide to international schools by area lists schools with fees from those schedules.

International schools hold a licence from the Office of the Private Education Commission. Ask to see it on a school visit.

Where you live shapes the school run, so choose the area and the school together. The largest groups of listings are in Other Bangkok, Silom & Sathorn and Sukhumvit. Phaya Thai and Phrom Phong follow, and Chinatown and Nana have smaller groups.

Questions to ask on a visit:

  • Which route will the school run take at peak time? Test it once.
  • What does the first year cost in full: tuition, entry fee, deposit, bus and uniform?
  • Which curriculum does the school follow (British, IB or American), and where does it lead?
  • Does the school hold a current Office of the Private Education Commission licence?
  • For a language or tutoring centre: may we book a trial lesson, and what qualifications do the teachers hold?

Moving for a school place? The condo rental guide covers leases for foreign tenants.

Frequently asked questions

How much are international school fees in Bangkok?

Among the large schools we checked, 2026/27 tuition runs from about 577,000 to 1,256,700 THB a year. Entry fees and deposits come on top. Each school sets its own schedule, so read the school's own fee page before you decide.

Who licenses international schools in Thailand?

The Office of the Private Education Commission (OPEC) licenses private and international schools. Ask a school for its licence details during a visit, and keep a copy of the fee schedule in writing.

Which areas of Bangkok have international schools?

Schools stand in several districts, including Sukhumvit, Bang Na, the riverside, Rama 9 and Don Mueang. Our school guide lists them by area, so you can compare the commute to each one before you pick a home.

What should I add up besides tuition?

Add the entry fee, deposit, school bus and uniform to the tuition for a true first-year cost. Ask also about lunches, trips and exam fees. Get the full list in writing before you pay.

How do I choose a language or tutoring school?

Ask for a trial lesson and the teacher's qualifications. Compare class size, schedule and the end goal, such as an exam or conversation skill. Check the opening hours against your own work or school day.
