MasterChef! We really enjoyed riding through a "hood" and walking through a pretty unhygienic alleyway, but that’s exactly where the true local, delicious food is found. Netflix needs to make an episode about this sweet old chef. He’s a true master of the wok and so kind that he offered us free bottled water. The dishes were all delicate and hearty, with absolutely nothing to complain about. The flavor doesn't focus too much on herbs, but rather on the rich, savory taste and perfect texture of the meat.

Delicious Gaa Moo Krob - crispy pork belly in a hidden alley! It’s a small counter where you can sit and watch the owner make the food and chat with him (through translator app). He was very kind and friendly and recommended the crispy pork and gave me a sample to try while he was cooking. Very filling and big portions as well. The other neighbours pointed me towards the spot when I got lost in the alley, definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area, you won’t be disappointed.

If there's one place I'd recommend in BKK for an authentic and amazing moo krob, it would be this one. It's hidden away in a tiny alley in a really local area near the port, and the chef seems to be cooking out of his own home, with his neighbours bringing their own bowls from home to grab dinner for their families just a few doors down. Chef was super lovely and offered a bottle of ice cold water as he prepared my food. Got the classic moo krob with rice and egg. What's so special is that he fries the already-cooked crispy pork with additional spices upon your order, then he fries the rice with some pepper and spices/salt, and lastly the fried egg to top it off. He takes such care with each individual component of the dish and it's truly phenomenal. Super underrated spot and definitely worth the trip out to try!! It was so good I even got another takeaway box for supper. Edit: eating it for supper and it's still amazing 12/10
