A stalwart of the Chinatown dining scene, Scala delivers traditional Chinese fare including shark fin preparations in a warmly decorated room. The kitchen presents dishes with care, and the quieter midday hours offer a more relaxed pace than the busy street outside.

The Shark Fin Restaurant in Chinatown Bangkok, with its traditional decor, was a pleasant surprise. We arrived after 1 pm, and the restaurant was surprisingly quiet, allowing us to enjoy our meal without any disturbances. We indulged in a delightful array of dishes, each freshly prepared and bursting with flavor. The Tofu in brown sauce was very tender, a comforting and satisfying choice, while the Stir-fried Chicken with cashew nuts added a delightful crunch. The Fried Oyster with Flour Paste and eggs was a decadent treat, and it had a fishy smell though, and the Crab Meat Fried Rice was a hearty and satisfying option, especially with chili sauces, which added an extra layer of flavor to our meals. We thoroughly enjoyed each dish and are already looking forward to trying more of the restaurant’s offerings.

Absolutely outstanding experience! From start to finish, everything was perfect. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, the service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and well cared for. Highly recommend to everyone—this is a gem in Bangkok!

The food at Scala is good old school Thai Chinese, but frankly overpriced for what you get. What completely ruined the experience was the manager’s behaviour at the end of the meal. Before we even paid, she demanded a tip, repeating “must, must, must” in a rude and confrontational manner. There were no niceties, no explanation. Just pressure. This is absolutely not the norm in Bangkok, regardless of restaurant type or price point, and it left a very sour ending to what had otherwise been a pleasant evening. Ironically, we are extremely generous tippers—typically 25–30%, and up to 50% when service is great. We were genuinely having a great time and would have tipped well. Unfortunately, the manager’s attitude killed the mood entirely. We left 10% and this review. Service culture matters just as much as food, especially at these prices.

It was two of us only trying out the shark fun soup. As other google reviewer had mentioned it was bland. You had to add soy sauce and vinegar so it would taste better. The crab fried rice was also bland but it pair well with our morning glory because the vegetables was stir fry in bean curd. My husband felt rush to leave by the women. They were not busy at all during a Friday night and the place was not busy at all. The waitress was not friendly at all. However they packed my left over rice to go very well plus my sauce. Overall it an average restaurant nothing exceptional. The total for our meal was 1150 baht.
