Delight Indian Restaurant @khao san

Not an authentic desi. Butter daal was tasteless and it smelled like Thai street food which I don’t like. Prices are very high. Counter person said “because we are in Khao San, that’s why prices are high”. And they charge 4% extra on card payment. Just a very bad daal and 2 naan and 2 tasteless tea did cost us 580 Baht. Not recommended at all.

We were warmly greeted and promptly seated upon arrival. The restaurant wasn’t busy at the time, and we were one of the only occupied tables. To start, we ordered the mixed vegetable pakora with some beer. The pakoras were just okay. There was inconsistency. The potatoes were pieces were undercooked. For mains, we had the Chicken Achari, Chicken Maratha, Chicken Biryani and garlic naan. We requested the dishes to be spicy and the spice level was spot on. The Chicken Achari was a highlight. The richness and depth of flavor were well-balanced and the combination of chicken with pickled vegetables worked really good. The Chicken Maratha was less impressive. It had a slightly burnt taste and it wasn’t our favorite dish. This was our first time trying it, so we can’t compare it to other versions. So maybe it didn’t suit our palate. The Chicken Biryani was disappointing. It seemed like the rice had been pre-cooked and then mixed with the spices afterward. The result was uneven seasoning with some clumps of plain white rice and most of the spices sitting only on the surface of the rice, rather than being absorbed into the dish as a proper biryani should be. The garlic naan was perfect, not too hard of too soft. Service wise, the staff was attentive. Our server checked on us regularly, which we appreciated.
