Din Tai Fung Central Embassy Branch

Din Tai Fung, located on 5th Floor in Central Embassy - a Bangkok’s upscale shopping mall, was one of its 5 branches around Bangkok. It was a Chinese Dim Sum restaurant originated in Taiwan. Its crab Xiaolongbao was good. Its prawn Shumai appeared in rather thick wrappers. It could maintain the very same food quality as its original one. Its dishes came out instantly. It was more crowded during weekends.

Din Tai Fung has been a consistent go-to eatery for our family gatherings and it didn’t disappoint during our New Year’s Day visit. Dumplings, salads, noodles, and soups were all on point as usual and we love the Central Embassy location for its big windows and views over Sukhumvit Road and parts of Wireless Road. May the 18 pleated xiao lung bao-powered empire keep on keeping on!

We popped in for a casual dinner and ended up leaving properly satisfied. We started with the Oriental Wantons, which were crisp on the outside, soft inside and packed with flavour – the kind you keep picking at even when you swear you’re full. The Kailan was a great balance to all the noodles – fresh, garlicky and not drowned in oil, which is rare. The star for me was the Braised Beef Noodle. The beef was meltingly tender and the broth had that deep, slow-cooked richness that tells you it’s been simmering for hours. Comfort food at its best. The Pork Chop Dry Noodles were another winner – plenty of flavour, nicely seasoned, and a proper portion that doesn’t leave you hunting for dessert straight away. Add a couple of cold Chang beers and you have the perfect easy Bangkok dinner. Nothing fancy, just honest, tasty food done properly. It’s the sort of place you go back to because you know you’ll always eat well.
