New York Steakhouse at the JW Marriott has had the reputation for years as the best steakhouse in Bangkok. After eating here multiple times, I don’t see any reason to argue with that. This dinner was a group of nine guys in the private room which we booked a week in advance. The private room can hold up to 12 people. The location is easy to get to. The JW Marriott between Soi 2 and Soi 4. Walk from BTS or get dropped off by taxi at the lobby. Beautiful hotel with nice bar in lobby and a second bar near the steakhouse on the second floor. The restaurant itself looks like a proper steakhouse right out of New York City. We had a lot of food. The salads are made tableside and done right. Everyone enjoyed the tableside show. Appetizers were strong across the board. The escargot disappeared fast, I didn’t get to try one but they looked amazing. The shrimp cocktail is huge, make sure you have a big appetite or better yet share it. The lobster bisque was excellent. Steaks were the main event and they nailed it. Everyone ordered different cuts and different temps. Every steak came out exactly as ordered. No mistakes. No sending anything back. Everything looked great and tasted even better. My tenderloin was perfect, most of the table went with rib eyes. Everyone was very happy. Service was exactly what you expect at a high-end restaurant. Attentive without hovering. Professional without being stiff. If you want a great steak dinner in Bangkok, this is the place. I don’t see a reason to go anywhere else.

To be honest, every single bite of the meal was excellent. The snails, for example, truly amazed us and we’re used to eating them back home in Spain! The Caesar salad was fantastic, and we loved that they prepare the dressing right in front of you. The steak tartare was also really good. However, we did have an issue with the main part of the dinner: the Porterhouse Steak made with Australian Wagyu. The problem is that if a piece of meat is frozen and shown to the customer straight from the fridge, it’s impossible to cook it rare and have it come out hot in less than three to four hours. So, what we received about 45 minutes after finishing our starters was more like a “stewed” Porterhouse, covered with too much pepper. We ended up leaving part of it, which was disappointing especially because the service, atmosphere, and every other detail were absolutely perfect. The team paid such great attention to detail. My suggestion would be to only serve fresh meat or to ask customers to pre-order their steak in advance if it needs to be defrosted. That way, there’s enough time to prepare it properly without stewing it. Because of that, I can’t give five stars but we’re all here to learn, and I’m sure they’ll keep improving! Thank you very much.
