On Lok Yun delivers fantastic vintage comfort food, and getting in fast with a short queue made the experience even better (I think we got lucky). The pillowy steamed bread with sweet, fragrant pandan custard was the clear standout of the meal. The simple scrambled eggs with ham and sausage hit the spot for a savory baseline, while the fizzy plum soda provided a refreshingly tangy contrast. Overall, the food was great, super comforting, and well worth a visit.

On Lok Yun is an iconic, 90-year-old traditional breakfast spot in Bangkok that serves nostalgia in every bite. Stepping into this legendary coffee shop feels like traveling back in time, thanks to its charming retro ambiance and historic wooden interiors. It is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience an authentic piece of old Bangkok food culture. For the ultimate morning experience, you absolutely must try their signature beverage highlights:Thai Tea (Cha Yen): This local favorite is perfectly balanced, incredibly rich, and beautifully creamy. It features an authentic, aromatic sweet orange-blossom flavor. It pairs beautifully with their famous fluffy steamed bread and sweet kaya dip.Traditional Coffee (Kopi): Strong, dark, and intensely aromatic, this coffee is brewed old-school style. Order it hot with thick layers of sweet condensed milk at the bottom for a true heritage experience, or get it iced to beat the Bangkok heat.Beyond the drinks, you can complement your breakfast with their customizable egg platters, pan-fried Chinese sausages, and French toast. The shop is located just a short walk from MRT Sam Yot Station, making it incredibly accessible for a quick historic bite.

This breakfast spot is highly recommended across many social media platforms, and it definitely lived up to the hype. We visited on our last day in Thailand, and it was the perfect way to end our trip. The atmosphere is peaceful, cozy, and full of nostalgic charm. The owners and staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. As soon as they realized we were tourists, they kindly helped us with the menu and made us feel right at home. There is a great variety of breakfast dishes to choose from. My favorite was the soft boiled eggs served with steamed bread. The bread is steamed instead of baked, making it incredibly soft, fluffy, and fragrant. There are also several delicious dipping sauces that pair perfectly with it. The Thai milk tea was another highlight. It had a rich tea flavor and was not overly sweet. We also tried the mixed breakfast platter, which came with generous portions and plenty of toppings. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. After breakfast, you can easily walk to nearby attractions like Giant Swing and Auntie Nid Milk Tea. I would definitely come back the next time I visit Thailand. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic local breakfast experience.

⭐⭐⭐ Nostalgic vibe, but maybe not worth the long wait in the heat. On Lok Yun offers a really cool, old-school breakfast experience with a distinct, nostalgic Hong Kong diner vibe right in Bangkok. However, be prepared for a reality check: you will likely have to queue for quite a long time under the blazing Bangkok sun before getting a table. As for the food itself, it’s just okay. We ordered their classic breakfast platters (eggs, bacon, sausages) and some toasts. It’s decent comfort food, but definitely not a "wow" culinary experience. Also, keep in mind that the sweet items—like the chocolate toast and kaya—are extremely sweet, which might not be for everyone. Overall conclusion: It is an interesting place to experience once for the retro atmosphere. However, if you are traveling with elderly family members or young children, I strongly recommend reconsidering. Standing in the intense heat for average food might be too exhausting for them.
