My visit to Somsom Seafood was an absolute delight. I tried the crabmeat curry, cheese scallops, and salted egg squid, and every dish impressed me with its rich flavors. The crabmeat curry was wonderfully aromatic— creamy, slightly spicy, and full of generous chunks of sweet crab. The cheese scallops were equally satisfying, with a smooth, buttery texture and a mild richness that paired perfectly with the seafood’s natural sweetness, the cheese was not overpowering. But the standout for me was the salted egg squid. It was perfectly cooked. Tender and coated in a luscious salted egg sauce that struck just the right balance between savory and creamy, making it the dish I kept reaching for again and again. Actually that was the best salted egg dish I’ve ever eaten in my life so far.. woah. Overall, Somsom Seafood delivers food that’s both comforting and mindblowing. I’ll definitely be coming back, especially for that unforgettable squid!

As much as I know that this is a tourist trap, you gotta give it to them - they do cook their food really well. We ordered 2 half tiger prawns, one portion of curry crab, and one large portion of crab fried rice. Where do I even begin? The curry sauce was so well cooked, yet it’s not so overpowering that it covers the original taste of the freshness of the crab. It does have a generous portion of crab roe as well. The crab fried rice has got to be my FAVORITE item. The rice texture was cooked to perfection, the taste was so umami, and the crab meat was fat and juicy, v much worth the price. The only item that I mis-ordered (and also why I deducted 1 star) was the tiger prawns. It’s alright, but the way it’s cooked made it a bit too dry for my liking. Definitely should have gotten the prawn vermicelli instead - garlic smelled heavenly from other tables. Overall - very pricey. Would I be back? Probably will :) we came at an odd timing of 3pm on a weekday. We were seated on L2 with aircon, and yet most tables were still occupied, they have a good flow of customers, mainly foreigners.

If you’re looking for a place that serves fresh seafood with bold flavors, Som Som Seafood is a must-visit! The highlight for me was their curry crab—rich, aromatic, and perfectly spiced. The crab was fresh and meaty, and the curry sauce had just the right balance of heat and creaminess, making it irresistible with steamed rice or mantou. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, and the staff were attentive and friendly. Prices are reasonable for the quality you get. Highly recommended for seafood lovers—don’t miss the curry crab!

Personally, it’s overrated. Tourist trap. Patronised by 99.99% tourists as most of these acclaimed ‘Michelin’ guide restaurants are made famous by foreign influencers. Apart from fresh seafood, the dishes we ordered were just ordinary. Fried Glass noodle with crab was literally glass noodle garnished with some bland crab meat. Flavour wasn’t infused. Tom yum gung was just spicy and sour. Taste was disappointing. Several tables were bothered and annoyed by the presence of cockroach 🪳
