Vegan Mahanakhon

It's in this beautifully restored 120-year-old teakwood colonial-style house on Arun Amarin Road, right near Wat Arun. The ambience feels so elegant and peaceful – perfect for a chill vegan meal in the Old Town area. We started with the mixed dim sum platter. It looked absolutely gorgeous when it arrived, with a nice variety of steamed and deep-fried dumplings to try. Taste-wise, they were decent – nothing bad at all – but they lacked that real depth of flavour I was hoping for. The steamed ones were pretty to look at, but the wrappers felt a bit too thick and there wasn't enough filling inside. The deep-fried options were enjoyable, though still missing something to make them pop. For mains, my pad thai was solid – tasty and satisfying in its vegan version. The green curry was actually really good – rich, aromatic, and well-balanced. The vegan pork belly was interesting with a nice texture (chewy-crisp in the right way), and the flavour was okay, but the crispy garlic on top was way too bitter for me. I think if they'd added some onions or something to balance it, it would've been much better. Service was excellent – super friendly and attentive – and the whole vibe made the meal feel special. The menu has tons more dishes I want to try, so I'd definitely go back next time I'm in Bangkok. Overall, it was a nice experience and I don't regret going at all. The setting alone is worth it, and the food is good... it just needs a little more bold flavour and depth to take it to the next level. I'd give it a solid 7.5 out of 10.

One of the best meals ever omg! We went with 6 people and ordered a feast and every dish that came out was 10/10 perfection! I can’t believe how perfect everything was from atmosphere to staff to food. There is even a cat to greet you! Also my husband has celiac and everything is labeled for gluten and they took extra care for our meal. It was very reassuring and delicious and he felt very safe eating here. Everyone needs to eat here!

We came here on our last night in Bangkok. It’s quite far out and an effort to get to. We hadn’t made a reservation but managed to secure a table as it was early evening. I knew it was vegan and so did my friend. We both liked it and the restaurant is high end. All the fruit and vegetables were v high quality and fresh and beautifully presented. The aubergine dishes were particularly good. There mangoes were so sweet and juicy. The pudding had salted coconut milk so I wasn’t so sure about whether I liked that. The servers are all in black and we are given slippers as we have to take off our shoes. An experience and we were both full afterwards. We wouldn’t go again (though I would with my vegetarian friends) but we enjoyed it. We asked it to not be too spicy and it was perfectly balanced in terms of flavour. It all feels v professional and I’m missing some of the warmth and hospitality and smiley faces I’ve become accustomed to. A beautiful environment to enjoy a beautiful meal.
